On the boycott

I think this should be a list of Danish products, which should be boycottet by the Arabian countries due to the unfortunate Mohammad drawings. But can anyone tell me why Kinder is on the list? isn’t that German. And can you even say “no for Denmark” which is the name of the domain?

What will the schools kids do without sun top?.. please notice the advertisement “Rich in vitamin C”, even though it is supposed to be a list of banned products. Awful refreshing, and yet forbidden…

Here is a barbarian, who seems to believe that the government is responsible for the cartoons by issuing a competition to draw them:

    Boycotting Denmark

In the ongoing saga of the Boycott Danish Goods it appears there will be no let up. A UN resolution, backed by possible sanctions is being sought to protect religions after the publication in Scandinavia of cartoons depicting prophet Muhammad. Many …

  3. Spomlo Says:

Well, that will also happen then.

As long as the UN has existed about 1000 resolutions to condemn specific countries were issued. Half of them agains the state of Israel. I wonder why? ..

Meanwhile none have been issues agains any Arabic nations or China for that matter even though these countries represent some of the most devilish and oppressive dictatorships the world has fostered.

It’s really too bad the Dane’s aren’t responsible for 99% of the worlds medicines. Or printings of Korans.

I find it fascinating that insulting figureheads from other countries or religions is fair game.

Why anyone does business in these countries is beyond me. So many people in the middle east are irrational, emotional, paranoid and more than happy to be repressed and to spread their repression. Reminds me of the US actually.

I bet there is a shortage of stand-up comics as well.

  5. A. Aydogan Says:

Danish, French or else, you guys may have no respect for religious figures or faith in general, whether it is Islam, Christianity or Judaism. The fact that some of the intellectuals brag about how Europeans can mock Jesus only indicates how irresponsible and irreligious they are, it is no indication of being civilized nor is it any excuse. I am deeply disturbed about Europe’s general attitude towards Jesus or any religious figure. While disapproving violent reactions I commend my Muslim brothers and sisters because we are very sensitive and responsive when it comes to religion. Please remember cartoons were used by German media to ridicule Jews and polarize the society. We all know what happened after. Be sensible and learn to respect others. Otherwise you cannot blame the World to call you racist. Undermining others’ beliefs and values is the first sign of racism. Every nation values their own traditions and identity but there is a fine line between nationalism and racism. With Europe’s history of racism and its consequences one would think you have learned from your mistakes but you prove everybody wrong every time. When are you going to learn you so called civilized people?

the same danish newspaper deny to show Jesus carikature in 2003, read her

  9. A. Aydogan Says:

Exactly, is not it hypocrisy to censor it when it comes to Jesus and publish it when it comes to Muhammad. People, this Danish newspaper has a right-wing , racist agenda, this is no freedom of expression, everybody who is sensible knows that. It is deliberate provocation. I condemn the violent reactions and torching of buildings. There is no excuse for that. There are ignorant idiots everywhere.

I think the part that Muslims are upset about is the Danish PM’s attitude. He refused to meet the Danish Islamic leaders who were trying to calm the situation and he refused to apologize repeatedly even though he knows very well this is no freedom of expression. I think he knows what he is doing and this is no mistake. The real goal is polarize the EU people and reinforce the anti-muslim sentiments so that Europeans are more acceptable and supporting when it comes to the oppression of muslims around the world.

At Brian Meidell’s blog i found a reference to this post which pretty much cuts out what a lot of people are thinking right now. I know I am, and it is some of the most precise statements i have read about the case so far.

And Aydogan, i agree on some of your points, although few, and yes there are ignorant idiots everwhere. But is it just a coincidence that these totally insane actions have a tendency to happen in countries, where religion has a strong influence on the culture and the people?

  11. Brian Meidell Says:

Aydogan, I completely disagree with you.
What the PM refused to do was to apologize for the publishing of those drawings, for 3 reasons:
    1) We have freedom of speech
    2) He had nothing personally to do with it
    3) The government had no involvement in it

No matter what the papers reasons were, the PM has no business apologizing about it. It’s not illegal and it’s not his business. In fact, if he goes on the record and says that the government thinks it’s wrong, then I believe he would be flayed for being against free press, which is – any day of the week – more important to Denmark as a whole than your religion.

  12. Jonas K. Sekamane Says:

Is it not wierd that, the PM or government does not have the freedom of speech to say “it’s wrong!”, without being flayed. I seriously doubt that Denmark will or can lose it’s free press because of an apology.

  13. Howard Larsen Says:

Yeah, the surname has the historical spelling, not the Americanized spelling. My great grandfather came from Horne Parish, Fynn.

I must admit I am having a hard time following this thread. I do agree that the publishing the caricatures of Muhammad is like waving a red flag in front of a bull. Why do it unless you are looking for trouble? At the same time, the world wide reaction is beyond anything anyone could have imagined. I think this goes way beyond the caricatures, which only Sunnis should object to. Yet, Shiites are just as vocal. Someone is stirring them up. And, they are doing it by pushing some hot button that goes beyond the images.

As far as PM Rasmussen’s position, I think it is reasonable given the history of a free press in Danmark. Unfortunately, many who are deprived of such a press will fail to understand the PM’s position.

As far as the Arabian boycott goes: Forget it. Send more havarti and salt cod (my favorites) over here. We will gladly buy it.
