Yeah, the surname has the historical spelling, not the Americanized spelling. My great grandfather came from Horne Parish, Fynn.

I must admit I am having a hard time following this thread. I do agree that the publishing the caricatures of Muhammad is like waving a red flag in front of a bull. Why do it unless you are looking for trouble? At the same time, the world wide reaction is beyond anything anyone could have imagined. I think this goes way beyond the caricatures, which only Sunnis should object to. Yet, Shiites are just as vocal. Someone is stirring them up. And, they are doing it by pushing some hot button that goes beyond the images.

As far as PM Rasmussen's position, I think it is reasonable given the history of a free press in Danmark. Unfortunately, many who are deprived of such a press will fail to understand the PM's position.

As far as the Arabian boycott goes: Forget it. Send more havarti and salt cod (my favorites) over here. We will gladly buy it.

Is it not wierd that, the PM or government does not have the freedom of speech to say "it's wrong!", without being flayed. I seriously doubt that Denmark will or can lose it's free press because of an apology.

Aydogan, I completely disagree with you.
What the PM refused to do was to apologize for the publishing of those drawings, for 3 reasons:
1) We have freedom of speech
2) He had nothing personally to do with it
3) The government had no involvement in it

No matter what the papers reasons were, the PM has no business apologizing about it. It's not illegal and it's not his business. In fact, if he goes on the record and says that the government thinks it's wrong, then I believe he would be flayed for being against free press, which is - any day of the week - more important to Denmark as a whole than your religion.
