The Flickr API recently started to ad support for geo information. Inspired by Daniel Drucker, I wanted to see if it was possible to plot an outline of Denmark, using only location info from geotagged flickr photos. So far, it isn’t. I fetched location information from 4497 photos, and found 1228 unique points. I used a bounding box, enclosing Denmark, and a little of the Swedish southwest coast, to fetch the information. Then I scaled the location info, and plotted it using GD. The dots on the map are locations of images, and the green dots illustrate points which have more than one photo on it. The image was scaled down to two versions, which I call Ratio2 and Ratio6. The Ratio2 version has 697 unique points, and the Ratio6 has 408.
As you can see the outline is not very detailed, but I will try again in a couple of month when more geotagged photos are available, to see if I will get a better result. At the moment it is only the Copenhagen area, that really stands out. And yes, maybe I could have used my time more efficiently.
You can see the larger Ratio2 image here
