Today Lei and I went to eat08, which is a food fair with lots of samples of the best Danish high end food products. The fair itself is part of a wider event called Copenhagen cooking, which is a festival created to brand Danish cooking and luxury food experiences.

eat08 was a great event, with something for everybody. There was everything, from grilled wild game, sausages and cheese, to fine chocolates and cakes of all sorts. And when all the nice food made the throat dry, there was luxury beer from Danish micro breweries, ecological smoothies and various other niche drinks to calm the thirst with.

The place itself is not remarkable large, but there was enough samples to get ourselves quite full, and that is quite an experience alone. I cought myself several times in going back to some of the nice luxury chocolate from Bojesen, and get a extra cup of beer from Braunstein Bryghus.

I’ve compiled a short list of some of the many products which I especially liked.

Apple cider from Braunstein brewery

White Chocolate with Liquorice from Bojesen Chokolade

Black wheat beer from Indslev Brewery

Pomona Cider from www.pomona.dk

Refreshing fruit smoothies from innocent

Various grilled meat from Danish hunter association

Traditional Danish “æbleflæsk” from www.aabentlandbrug.dk

Spicy almonds from www.summerbird.dk/

I realize now that the drinks made the greatest impression on me, but it was a hot day today, and these refreshings was highly needed.

I have just discovered my new favorite web shop. It is with pure joy I can announce that it is actually possible to by Danish sausages of prime quality on the net. I had only heard rumors about it, and when I checked it out, I found a butcher in Sønderborg, that sells the best south danish sausages in THE WORLD!! Start your order here now.

The sausages are from the famous butcher shop in the Marvelous city of Kirke Hørup. I can recommend the potato salami (“Kartoffel spegepølse”) and the amazing “Røget sardel”. And while you’re at it, you can just as well order a bunch of the snack sausages “ølpølser” with that too. A perfect substitute for grapes, or other kinds of fruity after dinner snacks. I am waiting with drool in my mouth, for my order of these fantastic meat filled intestines.

check it here: http://www.schmidtsdelikatesse.dk

Last fall i went to Turkey, and i tastet some türkish specialties which actually tasted pretty good, although the consistency is nothing to celebrate in any way (clearly adds to the downside of this snack). Then recently I tried to buy some in the local greengrocer, but I was quite dissapointed. The consistency was even worse than remembered and the taste was… well not very good. But then i saw the text written on the package, and i don’t mean the words “Super Delicious”. Right there in the middle of the package i saw the word “Lokum” which is a rather bad word for toilet in danish. Apperently the turkish meaning of Lokum is not directly linked to the danish meaning though. But maybe, somehow the etymology behind the danish word may stem from this foreign snack anyway. It is not hard to imagine how a foreign word for some kind of food kan be linked to a danish word for Toilet. After all the danes are not known for their strong stomachs and physical adaptability to foreign foods.
